Food Services Director

Duties

Primary Objective: Ensure the smooth and efficient operation of the school district food service program with an awareness of all district requirements and Board of Education policies.

  1. Oversees the District's breakfast and lunch programs.
  2. Plans and prepares the District's breakfast and lunch menus according to the state's nutritional standards. 
  3. Supervises the overall safety and sanitation of the kitchen and cafeteria.
  4. Assists in the hiring of kitchen staff.
  5. Purchases food, supplies, kitchen equipment, and other items related to the school's food program.
  6. Keeps informed of nutritional trends or concepts and on new developments in equipment that will improve the school's food program. 
  7. Assumes responsibility for all food service reports that are required by the Illinois State Board of Education and the district
  8. Maintains necessary records
  9. Cooperates in site visits involving the food service areas
  10. Obtain bids from vendors for the procurement of food, equipment and services needed for the school's lunch program.
  11. Assist with arranging for substitutes when food service personnel are absent.
  12. Coordinates food service employees, including performance standards and work schedules. 
  13. Submitting payroll timesheets in a timely manner.
  14. Other duties as assigned by the administration. 

 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Food Protection Manager Certification
  • High School Diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Knowledge of food service operations in an educational setting
  • Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory working relationships with other employees and the general public
  • Cooperative spirit and interest in the well-being of children
  • Computer skills
  • Problem solving in a collaborative environment
  • Adept at learning and using new software and web-based programs

Preferred Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of nutrition, food preparation, menu planning, sanitation and safety, purchasing and distribution in an educational setting
  • Knowledge of State of Illinois and local food service laws and regulations

 

Salary/Benefits

Anticipated Salary Range: $18.00 to $21.00 hourly, based on certification and experience

 

Additional Notes

8 hour workday; 6am to 2pm Monday through Friday. Follows teacher work schedule with the same holidays and breaks off school

180 day school year contract with additional alternating weekly schedule for summer food program (part-time) 

The ideal candidate will be available to begin May 1, 2025 in order to successfully train with our retiring cafeteria manager prior to the end of the school year.
